Corporate & Commercial Investigations

Intellectual Property & Brand Protection Investigations

Counterfeit goods, copied products, unauthorised sellers and diverted stock can harm sales, reputation and customer safety. Removing one listing may not solve the problem if the same seller operates through several names or if the goods are coming from a wider supply route. LPI helps identify the people, companies, accounts and addresses behind the visible activity.

What we investigate

Suspected counterfeit goods sold through websites, social media or online marketplaces.

Sellers using several account names or platforms.

Genuine stock appearing outside approved distribution channels.

Companies, addresses, websites and public contact details linked to the sellers.

Warehouses, markets, shops, delivery points or other locations connected to the goods.

Connecting seller accounts

Different accounts may use the same photographs, wording, phone number, company, address or delivery information. We compare these public details to identify accounts that appear connected. The report explains which links are confirmed and which are only possible.

Saving listings before they disappear

Online listings can be changed or removed quickly. We can record the page address, date, seller details, product description, price, images and other useful information. This gives your legal or platform team more than a cropped screenshot with no source.

Test purchases

A controlled purchase may help record the seller, payment, packaging, dispatch, delivery and the product received. The purchase should be planned with the brand or its solicitor so the item and paperwork are handled properly if further action is considered.

LPI can document the product and transaction, but the brand or a qualified product expert should decide whether the item is genuine or counterfeit.

Visits and surveillance

If online research points to an address or business, a visit or period of observation may help confirm whether it appears active, whether goods move through the site or whether connected people and vehicles are present. We observe from legal positions and do not enter private stock areas or confront sellers without proper authority.

Diverted and unauthorised stock

Sometimes the goods are genuine but have entered the wrong market or sales channel. We can examine seller patterns, company links, product details and delivery information to help narrow where the stock may be coming from. Wider checks on suppliers sit within our Corporate Due Diligence service.

Evidence for your brand or solicitor

The report brings together seller accounts, companies, people, addresses, products, purchases and supporting evidence. It is organised so your brand team, marketplace or solicitor can understand the links and decide whether to request removal, send a legal notice, begin civil action or report the matter to an authority.

Starting with a smaller first stage

You do not need to investigate every listing at once. We can begin with the main sellers, preserve the strongest evidence and complete one test purchase. The result may show whether a wider investigation is likely to be worthwhile.

Pricing

Intellectual-property and brand-protection investigations start from £1,000 + VAT. The quotation sets out the number of sellers or products, platforms, test purchases and any visits or surveillance included.

Most Popular Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you remove a listing?

We gather and organise the evidence. The marketplace, brand owner or legal process decides whether it is removed.

Can you confirm that an item is counterfeit?

That may require examination by the brand or a product expert. We document the item, purchase and seller.

Will the seller know?

Public research does not normally involve contact. A test purchase or visit is planned discreetly, although no operation can promise zero risk of awareness.

Can you investigate several marketplaces?

Yes. Comparing accounts across platforms can reveal shared photographs, wording, contact details and delivery information.

Do you seize goods or carry out raids?

No. Those actions require the proper legal authority. We provide investigative support and organised evidence.
